Physical and statistical descriptions of turbulence are treated and phenomenological theories of turbulent flows are reviewed. The course examines scales of motion; correlations and spectra; homogeneous, isotropic turbulent flows; free shear flows (jets, mixing layers and wakes); wall bounded flows (pipe and channel flows, boundary layers); and current directions in turbulence research.
