Comment/Description

Trainers:
The workshop is given by Renate Pommerening and Anna Penkner from [Designdoppel][1], Hamburg

Location:
The workshop location will be announced to registered participants in due time.

Course description:
In this compact course, the participants learn from scratch how to use the vector based graphic software Affinity Designer. No prior knowledge is necessary.

After an introduction about the differences of pixels and vectors, they quickly get to know the workspace and start understanding the most important tools to create and organise their own shapes. They learn how to exactly align the elements of each page, how to add color, draw pathes, create more complex shapes and place type or pictures. In the output chapter they also find out how to save documents for print or web usage.

Exercises after each chapter help internalising the input. Questions are always welcome and there is enough time for individual help. A Handout is given to each participant in the beginning of the course.

IMPORTANT: You need to bring your own laptop to participate in this course!

Testimonials by former participants:
* I truly enjoyed the course. I had very little knowledge on the subject but then I became hooked to it. I think this program will be very useful in my career. The teachers had a lot of patience with beginners like me. It was a great fun class!
* I was happy I took the course. I heard about this tool before but never set myself to learn it. With the examples and exercises, I got a nice introduction to it and quickly got familiar with the software. Funny enough the week after my supervisor requested a figure for a manuscript, and I really could use what we learned in the course.
* The Affinity Designer course was useful, fun, and the time was used efficiently. Anna and Renate were helpful and eager to answer all of the specific questions attendees had. This is a great way to get started with illustration software.
* This workshop gives you essential tools to improve your designs for scientific use. I like that the instructors looked at your work and were always available to answer questions.
