Kommentar/Beschreibung

This seminar looks at public goods and how they are regulated, why this has changed historically, and how this has influenced the way these services are provided. In short and
simple terms: Why do you have to choose a private electricity supplier instead of simply being supplied by a national or regional monopoly? Was it a good idea to hand over the water supply in the UK to private companies or not? And why has it worked or not in this particular case? Public goods are essential to all our lives, so it is important to understand how we regulate this sector and why there are no silver bullets, but rather trade-offs.

How do we explain that states have delegated the provision of electricity, water and telecommunications to market forces, regulating private companies rather than providing these goods directly? How do we explain that some states within the EU have done this more than others? How important was the European Union in this process, and how important were global trends? Finally, how has this worked out for the customer? Has the market been able to
promote efficiency, as the Austrian thinker suggested, or has it been to the detriment of the ordinary consumer?

The subject of infrastructure-related sectors is vast. We're going to focus on electricity, simply because that's my main area of expertise, and we're going to focus on Germany and the processes of Europeanization. But we will also touch on other areas such as telecommunications and countries such as the UK or France, because we will mostly be doing comparative analysis. We will probably also touch on issues of privatization.

Sparen Sie sich Mails nach der Erstverteilung über die Ostertage und wenden Sie sich im Zweifel (erst) in der ersten Vorlesungswoche an die Lehrenden.
Folgende Regeln gelten für die Anmeldung:
  • Die Anmeldung zu maximal 1 Veranstaltungen des Anmeldesets ist erlaubt.
  • Folgende Personenkreise werden bei der Platzverteilung bevorzugt:
    • Studienfach ist Politikwissenschaft (1180 Personen)
    • Studienfach ist Politikwissenschaft (406 Personen)

    Höhere Fachsemester werden bevorzugt behandelt.
  • Die Anmeldung ist nur für Teilnehmende mindestens einer der folgenden Veranstaltungen erlaubt:
    • 865587 Die BRD in Europa (SoSe 2025)
  • Es wird eine festgelegte Anzahl von Plätzen in den Veranstaltungen verteilt.
    Die Plätze in den betreffenden Veranstaltungen wurden am 07.04.2025 um 09:00 verteilt. Weitere Plätze werden evtl. über Wartelisten zur Verfügung gestellt.
  • Die Anmeldung ist möglich von 17.03.2025, 09:00 bis 25.04.2025, 18:00.
