Fields of study

Comment/Description

Trainer: [Dr. Gaby Schilling][1], Düsseldorf

Location: The workshop location will be announced to registered participants in due time.

Workshop description:
The workshop deals with what career means and which personal career objectives matter. Participants are introduced to different science-related career paths in the public sector (including universities, but not restricted to) and private enterprises, and which technical and personal skills matter, respectively. Moreover, participants get the opportunity to reflect their own competences and objectives as well as their suitability to these different career paths. Finally, participants develop an individual strategy to prepare their next career steps.

Goal: Getting to know about professional perspectives in public and private sectors and reflecting about own suitability to different career paths; setting the direction of one`s professional future by developing specific skills during the PhD project;

Testimonials by former participants:

* Good starting point for career planning. It showed perspectives both inside and outside of academia.
* Helpful to get impression on job chances. Broad overview on job chances for PhDs. Very good trainer.
A new way to see the options after the PhD. There are more opportunities than expected. It also offers a new look at yourself and your potentials.
* Dr. Gaby Schilling did not only gave valuable insights into different career options in academia and industry, but she also encouraged us to think about other aspects that play a role in finding a suitable job like free time activities, other (non-)professional skills and our personality. It was very interesting and I would recommend this course for sure. Thank you very much!
* The workshoped thaught me to reevaluate my skills and find confidence in them.
* This was one of the most useful workshops that I have attended! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to get familiar with the career options that are there and how one could find the right one for him/her.
