Comment/Description

NOTE: attendance of a seminar on Good Scientific Practice is mandatory for all GGNB/GAUSS doctoral students!

Trainer:
The workshop is given by Prof. Dr. Helmut Grubmüller, MPI-nat, Göttingen.

Location:
The workshop will take place at the [Manfred Eigen lecture hall of the MPI-NAT, Am Fassberg 11][1].

Workshop description:

Appropriate and inappropriate means of handling, processing, and displaying scientific data will be discussed (e.g. sampling and statistics), with examples of "borderline" cases and behavior being presented.
The rules of appropriate scientific conduct with respect to honesty, recognition of the work of others, authorship on publications etc. will be discussed. Furthermore, the students will be familiarized with the rules of Good Scientific Practice enacted by various organizations (such as the University of Goettingen, the DFG (German Research Council), and the Max-Planck-Society).It will be discussed what to do and how to act in cases of unfair treatment by coworkers or in cases where there is suspicion or evidence for scientific misconduct. Finally, guidelines and advice for good scientific practice will be given, including paper writing and presentations.

As for all GGNB/GAUSS courses, attendance will be confirmed with a PDF file in Stud.IP. It is not necessary to get the course instructor's signature!
